A nod to the transforming magic of the mind, "Metamorphosis" is one of 73 images I created for the book "Nailing Together Bits of Chaos: Jerry-Rigging a Life", poems by Donna Brua. The book is available for sale at my web site http://bitsofchaos.com/books.html
Inspired by the poem "Connections," from lines later revised out-- "As I stare at my hand on the table,
it morphs into creases and knobs,
then to reptilian scales."
Was it Camus or Sartre
who thought if you stared at your hand
long enough it became detached, alien? "

Erik, who�s five, looks at the rind of moon
and says, �That could be a fingernail clipping of God.�
Dirk, at four, seeing his breath turn to fog,
thinks that ants might think it their sky.
Clouds are horsetails, stars dippers and hunters,
his walk his father�s, his eyes his mother�s.
