This image was inspired by Donna Brua’s poem "Seeking the Surprise." In the poem the pencil and inspiration are linked with Lepidoptera's silken cocoon and flight.

My pencil touches paper,
making loops of silky silver spit,
coiling cocoons, awaiting
a burst of wings.
