Description
Fish Story - My Magical Mermaid Mother -This portrait of my mother in her early twenties was inspired by a little snapshot from the 1930's showing my parents standing at the edge of the Lake of the Ozarks. My mother is wearing an amazing long striped skirt and my father is holding up a large fish. This was long before I was born. I saw this picture many times over the years and after looking and looking, it seemed to me there was something fishy about that fish. I decided that it was totally a fake fish, a picture prop. I found this very funny, but for some reason I never asked my mother about it. Somehow as the painting developed, my father got painted out, my mother turned into a mermaid rather incongruously holding a large (definitely fake) fish, the old rowboat got turned right-side up, the lake and hills have disappeared, leaving my mermaid mother and her boat (No, I don't know why a mermaid needs a boat) floating in the night sky. It seems like quite a fish story, but I swear, every bit of it is true.

Being the hugest MERMAID fan and aficionado in the Northern hemisphere, I think, your title caught my eye, and then the colors, vibrance and textures. I love the stripes combined with the luminous solids and the extra props you brought into the whole composition make it so much fun! Great story! V/Pamela
